Violist Ria Hodgson maintains an active career as a performer, collaborator, and teacher. As a chamber and orchestral player, Ria has performed throughout the US and abroad, including appearances with the Superior String Alliance Chamber Players, The CHAI Collaborative Ensemble, and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, among others. Recently, Ria traveled to Viterbo, Italy where she was co-principal of the Tuscia Opera Festival orchestra, as well as traveling to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg where she was a Guest Artist of the Vianden Music Festival. Currently Ria performs with several groups throughout the Midwest region, including the Rockford Symphony Orchestra and the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra. She can be heard most frequently as the violist of the Tuuli Quartet, a touring ensemble that promotes the music of contemporary and classical composers.

In addition to her work as a performer, Ria has a great passion for teaching and maintains a private studio in Madison, Wisconsin that includes students of all ages and levels of experience. She is also a private lessons and group class instructor at WYSO Music Makers, a non-profit organization that provides equitable access to music education in the Madison community.

 Always striving to improve and diversify her teaching, Ria has completed Suzuki Certification for books 1-3 with Rolando Freitag and Edward Kreitman in Chicago, IL, as well as the Indiana University String Pedagogy Intensive led by Mimi Zweig.
